2 Corinthians 4:6-12

This evening Fred shares the word with us from 2 Corinthians 4:6-12. The persecuted people in Corinth, a minority group, a church that was weak and humble, who can only rely on God, despite what they went through and will go through, if God is for them they will flourish. For it's God's will, not the world's will. In a tough world we need a bigger picture of a great God. If life is a struggle right now remember that God is bigger and will rescue us. Paul states that God is able in ALL circumstances. He didn't promise Christian life would be easy, but he did promise that he would not leave us. We are vessels. Like jars of clay. It's the contents within us that are worthy not the vessel itself. Jesus lives within us so we carry the glory of Jesus wherever we are. We are people who hold treasure within us, the presence of God. Though this is easy to loose sight of in difficult times, we are a unique people. Paul's ministry was;

    Hard pressed - financially, socially, spiritually BUT never despair because Jesus always wins Distressed - tortured, whipped, imprisoned BUT never crushed because there is victory in Christ Hounded - this can be by our thoughts, our past, social media BUT we are never abandoned by our faithful, loving God Depressed - Paul experiences periods of depression too (despite seeing miracles!) BUT never destroyed
Paul reminds us that it's okay to feel these things but in the midst we know that God is faithful and for us. We cannot be in the world and in the kingdom, and in choosing to go the Jesus way life can be tough. So be honest with God and pray for him to come. Paul is saying that Jesus always does. We must fix our eyes on God. Faith rises in the face of truth. We are not the community of the perfect, we are the community of the forgiven.
