Pastor Jim becomes Regional Director

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

It is with a heavy heart and hugely mixed emotions that I am writing to inform you, my church family and friends, that I have been called by the Lord and the leaders of our global church to a new role in ministry and leadership which will mean that Maggie and I will be moving from Perth.

Over the last few weeks, the Board of General Superintendents has been speaking to me about the role of Regional Director of the Eurasia Region of the Church of the Nazarene. After much prayer and reflection both Maggie and I believed this could be God’s call on the next chapter of our lives, so following my declaring a willingness to be considered for election to this post, I was duly elected in the last week by the Board of General Superintendents and the global General Board of the church.

To be elected Regional Director is, of course, a huge honour and a wonderful opportunity to oversee our church’s ministry in 40 nations from the UK, throughout Europe, the Mediterranean, the Middle East, India and South Asia, to help facilitate the Kingdom advance of the Gospel to many who do not know Jesus. Especially in these troubling times. Yet the fact that we will have to leave Trinity and move out of Perth to follow this call will be very challenging for us. We love you. We have led and served you for nearly 9 years. You have loved, served and partnered with us in such a rich way. It has been a great privilege to see the church in Perth grow in so many ways.

Leaving at this time in history is doubly difficult as we cannot share this news face to face and will leave without being able to say goodbye to you all in person. But the UK is still on our Region and we will be back often so we will return to Perth when we are all able to be together to see you again. Yet I am confident that you are more than equipped to continue this great work we have been blessed to share. The future of Trinity is in great hands and in time God will call the next Senior Pastor to take you to the next level.

As disciples of Jesus we are a called people and a sent people. We always have been. So when Jesus calls we say “Yes Lord, here am I, send me” That is what we have done, and yes it is costly, but we trust the Lord of the harvest to open new doors to us all in this next season. He will lead us, guide us, comfort us and increase our joy.

I will be serving and leading in Trinity over the next 6 weeks whilst we transition and my first day in the new role will be on Monday 19th October. So we have time to say goodbye, as much as the present restrictions allow, but what we can do is pray for one another daily as we go through this changing season.

We love you and will miss you and we will pray for you.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight” – Proverbs 3:5-6

“I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 1:3-6

Your friends and pastors,
Jim and Maggie
